Becoming an Effective Blue Team Player in Cybersecurity

Before we head down to any concepts, let’s understand what it takes to be a good blue-team player. When you head down this path, you will get exposed to many other specialized areas of cybersecurity such as; incident response, risk management, digital forensics, identity management, training your users, email infrastructure, and engineering many tools that will be vital to your organization’s security.

If I could give you only one suggestion, I would tell you “be curious!” If opportunity rises, never hesitate to explore even other roles early in your career. Our aim as the blue team should be to build resilience, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure that threats are neutralized before they can breach our gates. But the success of this aim isn’t just about having the latest tools do their work. It requires you as a cybersecurity professional to be strategic. You need to have rapid decision making abilities and form great teamwork with your peers. Be brave but at the same time be cautious and vigilant!
